God's Authority

The dictionary meaning of authority is described as:

1) the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

2) a person or organization having power or control in a particular, typically political or administrative, sphere.

As I study the Word of God, I see the only authority I've experienced to be true is God's. My parents had authority over me when I was a child, I have authority over my children in my home, but God makes it very clear: there is no authority greater than His.

We may not have been a witness to Creation, but we have living proof all around us. All that exists began with God. His Spirit was here long before we appeared. Whatever God spoke came into being. The proof is in His Word. To understand His divine and powerful authority, lets take a journey to His Word.

Genesis 1 tells us:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

The First Day

3And God said, “Let there be light,”and and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.”

And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day."

Romans 13:1 tells us:

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

These verses say a mouthful, but there is one last and great note. There is so much evil in this world, it looks like Satan, (God's enemy and the enemy of every believer), is winning. Here is the best part of this study: Satan does not have the final authority. God gave this authority to His Son Jesus and the world will never be the same.

Dr. Tony Evans writes:

On the cross, Jesus Christ deactivated, dismantled and disarmed Satan’s rule over sin and death (Colossians 2:13-15). God gave the ultimate authority to His Son. He has placed all things in subjection to Jesus.

All we have to do is submit to Jesus Christ; accept His invitation to be saved and abide in Him. Then we will have access to the same Authority given to Him by Our Father.

Let's walk in God's Authority!

Be Blessed
