While We Wait...

I believe there is a reason why we don't like to wait. That blank, empty, free time makes us think we could be be doing other things, or perhaps makes us think of things we'd rather forget. I think about the common "on-hold" message I often hear when I'm trying to reach a business that is experiencing a large volume of calls: "your approximate wait time is _____minutes." In these trying times we long to know a wait time this virus and this season of uncertainty will end. The last answer impatient humans want to hear is: "I don't know." Those in customer service know that response does little to nothing to assist an already upset client. Through the years, I've learned to humbly say, "I'm not able to answer that, but I can find someone that can and we will learn together." Although we don't know when this crisis will be over, we do know from God's Word and our personal experience, that our troubles will not last. Thank God I'm no longer dealing with the same troubles I faced 20 years ago, 2 years ago or a month ago. God reminds us troubles last for a little while, but Joy soon follows. (Psalm 30:5)

Today, there are still no earthly solutions to be found, but there are Spiritual moves we can choose to make as we endure. God left us instructions to face every trial. We tend to forget, and when trouble comes, we panic. If believers follow His directions and hold fast to His promises, we can have Peace during every storm:

1) Seek God First while you wait--Focus on Him and the Kingdom of Heaven:

(Matthew 6:33)

There are many questions we may have, and only He knows the answers. When you speak to Him daily and spend time in His presence, He helps you get through each day. Why not seek the Creator of the world, when we want answers to what is going on in the world?

2) Pray while you wait. God tells us to pray without ceasing. God is intentional and always looking out for our good. He knows there is an enemy that hates Him and us named Satan. Just as Satan tried to destroy Adam and Eve to hurt God; he stops at nothing to destroy us. He is a liar and works hard every day to get in our minds to shift our focus off the Truth.

(John 8:44)

3) Speak God's Promises while you wait. What we say does have power. In the course of our lives, I'm sure most have heard or said: "Watch your mouth;" "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all;" or that infamous part of the Miranda rights no one wishes to hear: "...anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law." In my almost-half-a-century of living, I noticed we walk in what we speak. God gives us tools and strategies to keep our thoughts and minds on Him. Mostly, God gives believers His power from Heaven to speak to things here on earth. Here are a few scriptures to Believe and repeat:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

"If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent." (Psalm 91:9-10)

"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

(1 Corinthians 15:57)

"“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”" (John 16:33)

"“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."" (John 15:5)

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
